"People have so many stereotypes of people from where I come from. If you say you're from Oklahoma, it'll be like, 'Oh, so you milk cows, feed chickens, ride bulls, all that stuff, right?' And it's like, 'No. We don't ride around in covered wagons, either.'" -Carrie Underwood

American Idol Carrie Underwood Will Perform At Southern Oregon's Britt Festival

MEDFORD, Oregon - Britt Festivals adds two new concerts to its 2006 season. American Idol winner and country sensation Carrie Underwood performs on Monday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m. and the Bob Marley Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival featuring Ziggy Marley, Sinead O'Conner with Sly and Robbie and Ozomatli takes place on Thursday, August 3 at 5:30 p.m. Both concerts will be held at the Lithia Motors Amphitheater in Central Point.

Country music singer Carrie Underwood rose to fame as last year's winner of American Idol. She has now sold more than three million copies of her initial release entitled Some Hearts, making it the fastest-selling debut country album in history by a female artist.

She continues to build on momentum from her chart-topping debut single, "Jesus, Take the Wheel." The follow-up single, "Don't Forget to Remember Me," is skyrocketing. She was recently the only double-winner at the Country Music Television Awards.

Hailing from his father's legendary reggae troupe Bob Marley and the Wailers, Ziggy joined his three siblings to become The Melody Makers. He's crafted his own soulful sound and ventured out on his own blending blues, R&B, hip-hop and roots reggae.

Sinead O'Connor's lastest release Throw Down Your Arms was recorded at the Marleys' Tuff Gong studios in Kingston, and produced by Sly & Robbie, one of the most smoking rhythms sections ever, in or out of reggae. The album features O'Connor's interpretations of Jamaican roots and reggae classics.

Ozomatli have never been shy about their commitment to social justice, progressive politics and anti-war convictions. Their latest Grammy Award-winning Street Signs bears a new Middle Eastern influence in typical Ozo style, by mixing it into their trademark blend of hip-hop and Latin styles.

Tickets for both concerts are on sale to Britt members only until May 7, 2006. For information about Britt's 2006 season and membership, visit Britt on the web at www.brittfest.org or call 541-773-6077 or

Now in its 44th year, Britt Festivals is a non-profit organization that presents and sponsors performing arts and supports those activities through on-going education and audience development programs, and through cooperation with educational, civic, cultural, and governmental organizations in Southern Oregon. In addition to presenting concerts, Britt Festivals maintains a formal education program through the Britt Institute. Established in 1985, the Britt Institute hosts a wide variety of learning through a multi-faceted
approach of summer camps, workshops, artist residencies, grade school programs, lectures and adult learning opportunities.
