"People have so many stereotypes of people from where I come from. If you say you're from Oklahoma, it'll be like, 'Oh, so you milk cows, feed chickens, ride bulls, all that stuff, right?' And it's like, 'No. We don't ride around in covered wagons, either.'" -Carrie Underwood

American Idol Carrie Underwood to appear

Tickets for a summer performance by 2005 "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood will go on sale at 10 a.m., Friday, May 19.

Underwood will perform at the 6,000-seat Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury at 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13. Tickets ($35) will be available at the civic center box office at 500 Glenn Ave., as well as online.

The burgeoning country music star and reality-TV veteran is touring nationally through October.

Underwood, who swept away audiences and judges alike during last year's "Idol" contest, has risen to the top of the country charts with her first single, "Jesus Take the Wheel." Followup singles "Don't Forget to Remember Me" and "Some Hearts" have followed suit; her debut album, "Some Hearts," has sold approximately three million copies. The album reportedly attained triple-platinum status quicker than any other debut country album in history.

In addition, the recent Northeastern State University graduate walked away from the recent Country Music Television Awards ceremony with two trophies, Breakthrough Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year, and also received four Academy of Country Music Awards nods including Song of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

The 2006 "American Idol" winner will be announced during the show's season finale on Fox on Tuesday, May 23, which will also feature a performance by Daniel "Had a Bad Day" Powter.

Country vocalists from another reality TV competition will appear locally at another pair of concerts. "Nashville Star" winner Miranda Lambert will perform at the Bottle & Cork nightclub in Dewey Beach on Aug. 27. Two "Nashville Star" finalists, Melanie Torres and Jared Ashley, will play a double-bill concert at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on June 2 as part of the Rehoboth Beach Country & Blues Festival.
