Carrie Underwood Rocks Tulsa
Oklahoma's idol took the stage Sunday night for her first performance ever in Tulsa. Carrie Underwood sold out the Expo Square Pavilion on the first day tickets were up for grabs. She sat down to talk with News on 6 reporter Joshua Brakhage about pre-show jitters, celebrity spats, and her Oklahoma legacy.
It's a wild ride for Carrie Underwood, in Tulsa Sunday night, Los Angeles on Monday, and back to Dallas to make a dream come true on Thanksgiving.
Carrie Underwood says it's hard to tell the stops apart when she's on tour. But the response of her Tulsa fans makes her hometown a dead give-away.
"I get the most nervous when I'm performing in front of people that I know, so my family are here, a lot of my friends are here, a lot of aunts and uncles, who I don't know, some of them might never have seen me before live. It's going to be pretty nerve-wracking," Underwood said.
She says between the gossip, rumors, and the fake friends, she's still not quite comfortable being a celebrity. Still, she has more hit records and award nominations at 23 than most singers see in a lifetime.
After Carrie pulled off the shocking win for Female Vocalist of the Year, fellow nominee Faith Hill shouted "What!" at the camera and stomped off. Hill called Carrie to make sure there was no bad blood.
"We talked right after the awards show and she was just messing around and it's all good now. We were fine with it right after it happened then it blew up into this whole thing," said Carrie.
In one week, Underwood will go from the 5,000 seat Pavilion, to one of the biggest stages in sports; she’s performing at the Dallas Cowboys game Thanksgiving Day. Performing at half time has always been Carrie's dream.
Now, she's on her way to joining Garth, Reba, and Toby as an Oklahoma superstar.
"I'm just proud to be from the same state, and if my name's at the bottom of that list, that's great with me," Carrie said.
And seeing a hometown girl make it big is great with this Green Country crowd.
Now the stuff everyone wants to know, Carrie's single, she's a vegetarian, and she slums it in sweats when she's not onstage. The thing she's most proud of since making it big, graduating from college at NSU.
