CARRIE UNDERWOOD - Jesus Take the Wheel

Carrie Underwood - Carnival Ride, new cd Carrie Underwood became the fourth American Idol winner in May of 2005, then released a new single, "Inside Your Heaven," which went straight to No. 1. She has an album in the works, due out in November of 2005.

"People have so many stereotypes of people from where I come from. If you say you're from Oklahoma, it'll be like, 'Oh, so you milk cows, feed chickens, ride bulls, all that stuff, right?' And it's like, 'No. We don't ride around in covered wagons, either.'" -Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood is living the dream

Carrie: 'It's so weird having people gush over me and refer to me as a celebrity.'

It's been a little more than 15 minutes of fame for American Idol-country singer Carrie Underwood. In fact, she's making history with the highest-selling country album by a debut artiste, Some Hearts.

YOU might say that wholesome country gal Carrie Underwood has changed the face of American Idol forever. For one thing, she brought country music into Idol, spurring on other country hopefuls (for better or for worse) like Kelly Pickler and Bucky Covington this season and perhaps even prompting the show's producers to weave country music as one of the weekly themes (much to Simon Cowell's distaste).

And while we may never know if Underwood inspired young Garret Johnson (the cutesy cowboy who had, prior to the Idol auditions, only sung in front of his turkey), we do know for sure that her debut album, Some Hearts, is rocking the country music charts, securing Underwood a place in the history books (at least in Nashville) for coming out with the highest-selling country album (it has sold more than two million copies to date) by a debut artiste.

Carrie: ‘It's so weird having people gush over me and refer to me as a celebrity.'
Produced by Mark Bright and Dann Huff, Some Hearts was released last November and features hits like Jesus, Take the Wheel and the title track.

The album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, selling 314,000 copies in its first week. It went gold after only two weeks and remained at the top spot for five consecutive weeks. In January, Some Hearts went double platinum.

Underwood, however, is taking the success of her album in her stride, choosing to enjoy each moment as it comes, for however long it may be.

Carrie Underwood Lyrics Jesus Take the Wheel

She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati
On a snow white Christmas Eve
Going home to see her Mama and her Daddy with the baby in the backseat
Fifty miles to go and she was running low on faith and gasoline
It's been a long hard year
She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention
She was going way to fast
Before she knew it she was spinning on a thin black sheet of glass
She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
She didn't even have time to cry
She was sooo scared
She threw her hands up in the air

Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this all on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheel

It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder
And the car came to a stop
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat sleeping like a rock
And for the first time in a long time
She bowed her head to pray
She said I'm sorry for the way
I've been living my life
I know I've got to change
So from now on tonight

Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this all my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on

Oh, Jesus take the wheel
Oh, I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
From this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheel
Oh, take it, take it from me
Oh, why, oh

"Jesus, Take The Wheel" is the first single from American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's debut album, Some Hearts. The music video for it was originally slated for release on November 4, 2005 but was delayed and made available at a later date on Yahoo! Launch.

The song tells the story of a young mother who lives a hectic life. On her late-night drive on a snow-covered road, the woman begins sorting out her emotions and bemoans not having enough time to do the things that really matter. Then, her car hits a patch of black ice, causing the woman to lose control of her car. She panics and cries out the title line of the song; shortly thereafter, she is able to regain control of the car and bring it to a stop. After taking stock of the situation (and seeing that her baby has remained fast asleep in the rear seat), the woman vows to give her life to Christ.

On February 1, 2006 "Jesus, Take The Wheel" was certified Gold by the RIAA.

With six weeks at the pole position of the Billboard Country Singles chart, the song ties Faith Hill's "Breathe" as a runner-up for longest-running No. 1 by a solo female artist, a record held by Connie Smith. Smith's "Once A Day" had an eight-week run at No. 1 in 1964-65.

On March 2, 2006, Carrie Underwood went back to American Idol to perform her #1 hit single "Jesus, Take The Wheel".

Carrie Underwood Lyrics Some Hearts

I've never been the kind that you'd call lucky
Always stumbling' around in circles
But I must have stumbled into something
Look at me
Am I really alone with you
I wake up feeling like my life's worth living
Can't recall when I last felt that way
Guess it must be all this love you're giving
Never knew never knew it could be like this
But I guess

Some hearts
They just get all the right breaks
Some hearts have the stars on their side
Some hearts,
They just have it so easy
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes
Some hearts just get lucky, lucky sometimes

Now who'd have thought someone like you could love me
You're the last thing my heart expected
Who'd have thought I'd ever find somebody
Someone who someone who makes me feel like this
Well I guess

Some hearts
They just get all the right breaks
Some hearts have the stars on their side, yes
Some hearts,
They just have it so easy
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes
Ohhhhhh

Even hearts like mine
Get lucky, lucky sometimes

Even hearts like mine
Ohhhhhhhh

Some hearts,
They just get all the right breaks
Some hearts have the stars on their side
Some hearts,
They just have it so easy
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes

Some hearts
They just get all the right breaks
Some hearts have the stars on their side, yes
Some hearts,
They just have it so easy
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes
Some hearts just get lucky sometimes

Carrie Underwood Lyrics Independence Day

Originally performed by Martina McBride

Well she seemed alright by dawn's early light
Though she looked a little worried and weak
She tried to pretend he wasn't drinkin' again
But daddy left the proof on her cheek
And I was only eight years old that summer
And I always seemed to be in the way
So I took myself down to the fair in town
On Independence Day

Well word gets around in a small, small town
They said he was a dangerous man
But mama was proud and she stood her ground
She knew she was on the losin end
Some folks whispered,some folks talked
But everybody looked the other way
And when time ran out there was no was about
On Independence Day

Let freedom ring
Let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today
is a day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong
Let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away
Let the guilty pay
On Independence Day

Well she lit up the sky the 4th of July
by the time that the fireman came
They just put out the flames and took down some names
And sent me to the county home
Now I ain't sayin it's right or it's wrong
But maybe it's the only way
Talk about your revolution
It's Indepenedence Day

Let freedom ring
Let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today
is a day of reckoning
let the weak be strong
Let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away
Let the guilty pay
On Independence Day

Carrie Underwood Song Lyrics Inside Your Heaven - Words

"Inside Your Heaven" is a song written by Andres Carlsson, Pelle Nyhlen, Savan Kotecha and produced by Desmond Child. Two versions of the song were released as singles in 2005 (see 2005 in music): one by American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, and another by Idol runner-up Bo Bice.

Underwood's recording of the song, released on June 14, 2005 in the U.S., debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and reached number four in Canada. It was certified platinum by the RIAA and two times platinum by the CRIA, and it was later included on her debut album Some Hearts. The B-side is a cover of the Martina McBride song "Independence Day".

Bice's version of "Inside Your Heaven" was slightly less successful; it was released on June 21, 2005 and peaked at number two on the Hot 100. It was certified gold by the RIAA, and like Underwood's version, it topped Billboard's Pop 100 chart. The B-side is a cover of the song "Vehicle" by Ides of March.

I’ve been down
But now I’m blessed
I felt a revelation coming around
I guess it’s right
It’s so amazing
Every time I see u
I’m alive
You’re all I’ve got
You lift me up
The sun and the moonlight
All my dreams are in your eyes

I wanna be inside your heaven
Take me to the place you cry from
When the storm blows your way
I wanna be the earth that holds you
Every bit of air you’re breathing in
A soothing wind
I wanna be inside your heaven
When we touch
When we love
The stars line up
The wrong become undone
Naturally
My soul surrenders
The sun and moonlight
All my dreams are in your eyes

I wanna be inside your heaven
Take me to the place you cry from
When the storm blows your way
I wanna be the earth that holds you
Every bit of air you’re breathing in
A soothing wind
I wanna be inside your heaven

When minutes turn to days and years
If mountains fall, I’ll still be here
Holding you until the day I die
I wanna be inside your heaven
Take me to the place you cry from
When the storm blows your way
I wanna be inside
when the storm blows your way

I wanna be inside your heaven
Take me to the place you cry from
When the storm blows your way
I wanna be the earth that holds you
Every bit of air you’re breathing in
A soothing wind
I wanna be inside your heaven
